Default Well, the Athlon 2700 and A7N8X...

...(with the NVidia NForce2 chipset) work fine with the Digi 002. This includes the onboard IEEE 1394 ("Firewire") interface.

Tweaking and adjusting now... stay tuned.

Thanks, Phil, for being the official DUC guinea pig with this new chipset and mobo configuration. I also am considering an upgrade to this configuration. Last week when I tried the original nForce 220 chipset with the 001, it did a pretty nice job and I posted results on the PT Performance thread. I was actually quite impressed it achieved maximum performance at the very lowest buffer size. This could indicate both stability and high performance. So, I will be looking forward to what you have to say.

Hey Allen, welcome back!

I spoke too soon.

I've been dealing with four issues.

1. Problems getting my MOTU Microp Express parallel port MIDI interface to be recognised. Not a Digi or mobo related problem - MOTU's parallel port driver for XP just sux. But I've found a workaround.

2. My Volcano 9 isn't varispeeding on this mobo. Even though I'm using the Q-Fan feature (which worked GREAT on my last mobo - A7V333) the fan stays at whatever setting I have it set to with the small potentiometer (at the end of the cable coming from the fan) and isn't being adjusted via the mobo. Noisy and a hassle, but isn't going to stop me from working. Probably will require a BIOS update from Asus to fix.

3. Occasional DAE -1115 errors when I launch PT. They happen about 1/3rd of the time, but after getting one, if I immediately relaunch PT, it opens fine. Again, a hassle, but as long as it works with the second attempt, I can deal with it.

4. Screen corruption. This is the one that's killing me. I can launch PT, and even loop a song and let it play back for HOURS, but after a few minutes of doing actual work in the program, my screen displays get corrupted. The mouse pointer turns into a postage stamp sized square that somewhat resembles the UPC barcodes, and the screen gets filled with loads of vertical lines. You can still see PT "behind" all the lines, but not well enough to keep working. I can hit the "X" and close it down, and I can see the save dialog that pops up (although I can't read what it's saying - I am able to save because I "remember" the layout of that dialog box and guestimate where the correct "button" is).

After exiting PT, the lines are there on the Windows desktop. But the problem only arises within PT. It has not happened with Sound Forge or Internet Explorer or any other app I've tried. It goes away if I reboot - at least until the next time I try to do any real work within PT.

I updated my graphics card drivers (Matrox G550) to no avail.

Any suggestions? It would be nice to be able to search the forum right now, since searching the answerbase gave me no useable results.

Phil, I think I remember reading that using the PS2 mouse caused video problems, but switching to USB solved the problem. What are you using for a mouse? Other than that, you might try just one stick of memory, or slowing it down a bit to 2700/333 mhz to see if it makes a difference.

Hi Phil. I sent you an e-mail about my computer and that i'm starting new. I hope everything works out and you PT revs! Please post as much about the board as you can and have time for? I know it will be a great benefit for me. I will post how my litle system boots up and performs as soon as things get going . Thanks greg!

Phil,
On the Volcano 9 did you get the CoolMod version. I use the manual control and have it set all the way to low. Seems to work fine at that setting and very quiet.
Good luck,
Allen

I am using the external pot on the Volcano 9 also and it works fine. I have it taped around the fan block for easy access if I need it, I am running it just a tad off the minimum setting.

I've got the cool mod version, with the under CPU sensor (not needed with the Asus boards since they have an under CPU sensor built in), manual control pot or full speed capabilities.

I have the pot installed and turned u to about 5,000 RPM's (just shy of full speed), just as I did on my last mobo - except the last mobo would vary the voltage to the fan (as long as you had the fan plugged into the right connector on the mobo) as temps increased or decreased. This mobo pretty much runs it flat out all the time.

I don't think I can go much slower with the fan speed either - oh sure, I could if the load was going to be low, but when I have a large session open, the CPU temp starts to climb pretty fast.

Allen, do you have any idea of what the safe CPU temp limit on the XP 2700?

BTW, I could have done without the fan lights. I don't even have them hooked up. But if I had a clear sided case, it might look cool.
