Anyone figure out how to play system sounds through HD Omni?

Did you follow the instructions in my earlier post about setting this up in the mixer tab? Also, you may need to configure things in the audio midi setup of the Mac to output digitally. And, if you are using an optical cable, you may need to set the Omni's Spidf setting to optical (this will also prevent you from using Adat).

Is there any reason this same routing configuration wouldn't work on a Win 7 computer with an optical out?

Apple iMac: iMac 3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 27"
RAM: 32 GB
Operating System: Apple Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion)

So I am guessing the reason to not just quit PT when you want to listen to Itunes, is to be able to quickly compare your current mix with some reference mix? Because other than that, If you just quit PT, you can listen to anything from your connected computer thru your system with no problems.

Or import the mp3 into your session. You don't even have to import. Just preview the audio from the import screen.

The standalone mixer function of the Omni work independently of Core Audio. Inputs that are assigned in the mixer tab in the Pro Tools Hardware Setup window will play into the Omni's inputs and directly out to the Monitors, regardless of Pro tools being open or not.

Why wouldn't you rather preview them in the workspace?

I'm not a Windows guy, but I'm guessing you would just need the ASIO 4 all driver to use the optical out in Windows.

While we're at it ... wondering if anyone has this issue:

While I'm listening to Spotify, every minute or two so I get a stutter in the music. Quick, like 1/2 second but it stutters in place like two or three ticks and then moves on. Weird.

Omni says 48k s/r. Any ideas?

It's called the Internet...

Does this happen with other audio sources? Does it happen when playing back through the computer's local audio device?

Nope. When I listen with headphones plugged right into the MBP it's fine. It's not a buffering thing.
