Default 002r, microphone tracking has a doubling effect

I've been using the 002r to get my music right for a while, so I haven't done much in the way of vocals. Podxt live works great, etc. NOw time to do my vocals. I have my vocals going into mic 1 and I'm getting this doubling effect while tracking. Its way annoying, not quite a slap back, but not a good clean dry sound. Anyone else seeing this?

I've tried turning off phantom, I've tried different microphones. Different inputs. I can't figure it out. Can't find this in the Duc either as an issue anyone is seeing.

any help is appreicated.

What you are hearing is probably the delay effect caused by latency in your rig. So you hear your voice through the air and then very quickly behind you hear the same thing through the computer/headphones/speakers. There is enough delay to be noticeable. Try going to the "Operations" menu and turn on low latency monitoring.

It takes time for your computer to process and spit back the audio you are recording. That is why there is latency.

Forgive me if you already know this-

...and make sure to reduce your Hardware buffer size when tracking, if you are not using a lot of RTAS plugs. This will reduce the latency as well.

first and foremost it's hardware buffer size. I was doing my first student film in college using pro tools to do voice overs when I found this out. 128 or 256 should be ideal hardware buffer sizes for tracking. once you get to 512 and higher you can really start to hear that annoying echo effect.
