1. try chopping the guitar up manually.
2. you can use a separate source to trigger a gate to release when you want it to.

Good ideas. Thanks. The gate idea is great. How about a plug in that does this? Perhaps pitchblender? Sounds simple enough for a plug in.

The Digirack gate will do it, but you need a suitable audio track to key off of, and that's not always easy. Maybe a drum track that is itself gated, or best of all, a drum machine track programmed the way you want it.

If your session is aligned to the grid, it's just as easy to set the grid to 16th or 32nd notes and delete every other note.

I've never tried it but couldn't you just use sections of generated noise or tones to trigger the gate?

Hey guys, check this simple and incredible effect. It's my favorite PT trick!

Go into the volume automation, select a grid value of 32nd notes. Then use the triangle tool to draw in automation. The effect will be the audio "stuttering" in and out right on beat!

Have fun and tell me what you think!!

Amplitude modulation will give you what you want. I'm not sure if there's a plug that will do it, but I know that I can make it happen in SoundForge. I like the automation tricks though...very slick

mondomod/metaflanger by Waves (in the Gold, platinum, Effects bundles). There's a preset that makes the audio (i've done it on a vocal) sound like your singing through a fan. Pretty cool.

If you are aligned to a grid. Generate a click at the interval you want the "stutter/tremelo to be, record it to a track, use it as a key source for the gate. If you are not aligned to a grid, use Beat Dectective to generate a tempo map, generate a click from that, use it as a key source for the gate.

Pitchblender has a preset for it.
