I thought my Avid I/F was a GIGANTIC dongle already. Is the plug-in authorizations the reason I'd need to have "two dongles" = the iLok and my Avid I/F?

Sorry, I'm new to the ProTools world as of the 11R.

no, with PT9 you no longer need to have your Avid interface connected to run PT. Just an iLok with the license. You can use (pretty much) any interface you want now for your I/O. Which kinda sucks for us LE interface owners because the worth of our interfaces dropped over night, although the 11R will hold its value much better than my 003R, since the 11R is a modeler. Now my 003R is worth less than my 11R and I paid about 1/4 for the 11R of what i paid for the 003R.

You can update but you need the iLok.

Guys, no worries, it is really very easy.

Having a small copy protection dongle is a big plus. If you want to take your work with you (train, plane, weekend) you just grab your Laptop and iLok, no need to lug your rack unit with you.
