Simulating 50-60\'s large studio acoustics
I'm trying to recreate that special room acoustic reverberation that big record company studios had in the 50s to 60's before everyone went for that "dead" funk disco sound of the 70-80's
If you listen to some Miles Davis records of that period, and do the famous "polarity inversion + mono" trick to listen to the reverberation used, you can really hear the large room on Tony Williams drums, and how it greatly contributed to the sound. Interesting thing is you can also hear on the trumpet and sax the fabulous "real" reverb chambers all these big studio had at the time (I know, I used the ones in the Hérouville Chateau in 79, very difficult to beat...) So far, IMHO most conventional digital reverb chambers (hard or soft) don't come near TLSpace has disappointed me (but maybe I haven't got the right impulse responses) Some convolution plugs like IR are not bad at all, very warm and "roomy" but I would be glad to hear of the others Thanks, Mark

Check out Altiverb - there are some awesome chamber impulses from Cello studios - not to mention excellent plates and rooms.

Re: Simulating 50-60\'s large studio acoustics
In another very recent post someone was raving about how McDsp's Revolver was way better than Altiverb. No experience myself with either, but McDsp is always worth checking out.
