Default tips on simulating distorsion

HELLO, when recording in a home studio the use of amplifiers is in most cases out of the question, so does anyone know the best way to simulate guitar distorsion without the use of amplifiers?

A second vote for McDSP Chrometone. Another worthwhile candidate is Guitar Rig 2.



BTW you can get some big overdriven sounds from little amps like this:

Amplitube 2 is by far the most "true" sounding that I've tried. It's quite heavy on the CPU though.

iZotope Trash is also another very powerfull distortion / overdrive unit. Give it a try.
