Default Eleven rack sound while record button disabled

Hi there,
Its been a while since i fired up the old orange box.
Therefore what Im about to ask may be useless.

I can remember a while back that if a track is not record armed in PT there is no sound?

Mine is acting like its in standalone mode IE i am getting sound as soon as I create a session, then when i arm a track i get a distinct volume jump and then this hideous double tone that sounds like an alien when played back. Recording a second track makes it sound like a phasey, hideous double alien. I have defaulted everything in the I/O setup in PT, disabled windows sounds and non eleven rack volume meters but still no luck. Im running PT 9.0.3 on a windows 7 machine.

All of my I/O in PT are the default setting, the 11 is set to guitar rig input, the interface inside the PT track is set to Eleven Rig L (mono) and the main outs are selected.

All of my sessions are 44.1k @ 24 bit. Eleven rack is selected as my playback engine.

I hope thats enough information for now and thanks for your input

Hmm... I've never had this happen on PT9 or PT10, but it happens almost everyday in PT11. I wonder if it has something to do with the driver?

What driver are you using? 1.1.6 or 1.1.7?

What works consistently for me is create an audio track for the Eleven Rig, ARM it. You should now be getting the doubling.

Now, go to OPTIONS>Low Latency Monitoring and click it, go back to OPTIONS>Low Latency Monitoring and click it again.

The doubling should be stopped and you can operate as normal.

If you think a video of how to do this would be helpful I can probably get to it tomorrow.

Hope that works for you, it works for me everyday.

Hi Benoni,
I am on 1.1.7, but only updated to see if it would help fix the problem. I'm at a loss to explain why I am getting sound when a session is open but no track is record armed. According to protools information this should not be possible. At least in PT9 anyway.

Yeah I have tried the low latency thing and also switching from input only monitoring to auto without much luck

Try it with a Stereo Audio track.

Make sure the track is ARMED before you toggle LLM.

This works for me without fail every time in PT11. Never had the problem in PT10 or lower.

Do you have the Eleven Rack as your computer audio interface? If so, try switching that off and just use the Eleven Rack for Pro Tools.

Ok so I seemed to have solved the problem. I went into control panel- avid eleven rack and unchecked the disable host control. IE it's now host control enabled. I "think" this solved the problem. I opened up a session and sure enough there was no sound unless I armed a track. The double phasing alien had gone. BUT, I also toggled LLM on, off as well. After closing and opening a new session 3 or 4 times I could not get the 'fault' to repeat itself.

So if anyone has this issue, please try benoni's suggested fix plus try what I tried as well.

I went ahead and made a video showing the solution that works for me, I'll post it here after it finishes uploading.

Hey Benoni - thanks for this!

It has been happening to me too w/PT11 - driving me nuts! Seems a bit more stable with latest driver but your 'trick' is working reliably.
