Default Multiple Tempo track/map in one session

I read multiple threads on this, but none actually applied to what I wanted to do.

I'll keep it simple.

This is ALL midi with no audio at all. I just have multiple PIANO midi files that each contain elaborate tempo maps. Let's say each song is 10 bars long.

I import the first one ...all is good. Now, I'd like to import the 2nd one but I would like for it to start from bar 12 . Why can't the tempo map of the 2nd song simply start from bar 12 without overwriting the tempo map for the first 10 bars?

All these midi files have to be brought in one single session in order for me to do what I need to do. Please advise!

I'm sure there are several ways to do this, so here's one:
Name each track as "song_pnoBPM"(and BPM would actually be that song's tempo)

Assuming each is in its own session for now, use the Import Session Data and import each into your master session(do NOT import tempo info) and make each a new track.

Now that all your tracks are in one session, set all to Clips view. Using a new blank midi(or instrument) track(or the track with your first piece of music), Highlight>Copy one clip at a time and paste onto your main track, (use GRID mode) and drop each on beat one of any bar, but I suggest(for now) 2 bars after the previous song ends. Now, refer to the track names for the BPM and add tempo changes at the start of each clip so that each clip runs at the desired tempo

Once you see how this works, I bet you find ways of streamlining the process. I'm not suggesting that this is the "best" way, just a way to get started

Thanks a lot.

In other words, I have to create multiple PT sessions first and then start importing those and all that. There's no way of importing the midi files with individual tempo map directly then.

I tried it but there's a problem with this method, unless I did NOT do it right!

My midi files have a very complicated tempo mapping. It's not just one or two tempo events that I could just enter manually.

So if "importing session" does not bring those tempo mappings , then what good does this method do? In fact what would be the difference between this and just a regular "Import Midi" without tempo?

I must've misunderstood your post then? What I really meant was to bring various midi files to a master session without them losing their tempo information.

If all the midi is now in a single session, just add tempo changes at the start of each musical piece Youtube can be a great help for stuff like this

What the OP is saying is that each song has multiple tempo changes, and he doesn't want to go to the trouble of inputting all that tempo data manually.

Drew's idea could work (importing session data including tempo map, with offsets) to preserve previously imported session data.

I'm pretty sure I said "I just have multiple PIANO midi files that each contain elaborate tempo maps" , no?

Yes, Lebruun ....

It's not that I don't want to go through the trouble of doing so...it would take a whole week to input those crazy tempo mapping for Chopin midi files. It makes no sense to do this manually. I used to be able to do this with a $20 DAW back in the days. Too bad they stopped supporting it for newer Operating systems. It would take me under 10 seconds to bring in 10 separate midi files ...literally!

No the import DATA session didn't do it either. I don't know why I didn't think of this myself last night. A fellow ProTools user on Facebook suggested that I do it the backwards way. So basically you start a master session with one midi file. Then, you copy all data to the clipboard, bring in the 2nd midi file which obviously overwrites everything...but then you put the cursor somewhere in the timeline past the song you just imported and "paste" the first song back in the session. So now you have two midi files back to back each with own tempo track... You keep repeating this till you get everything in there. Pretty strange for a full blown DAW but I don't care...as long as it works!
