I hope that they grandfather in some of us that have purchased their desks in the past few months, to get the software upgrade for free. Anyone hear anything regarding this? I know that they did that in the past with version 2.9.

What I wonder is since the number mix busses has increased from 16 to 24, does this mean I can now have 8 stereo subgroups *and* 16 aux sends. With the current software you can have 8 stereo subgroups and 8 aux sends or 8 mono subgroups and 16 aux sends. The ability to have both 8 ST. subgroups with 16 aux sends or 8 mono subgroups and 24 auxes with the upgrade would seem logical. And it would solve a big dilemma for me. Any comment Sheldon?

Thanks.

According to the Avid guy I talked to at NAMM. The Venue 3 software (which is what gives the SC48 all the new stuff) gives the SC48 the same aux/group configs as the other consoles. Nothing more, nothing less.

I gues the groups become Var groups so they can be Monitor mixes as well as (4)stereo linked auxes. Where stereo plugins can be inserted and routed L-R amd Mono/Cluster. Just like the Profile and the D-show.

If not i don't get the idea of changing the auxes from 16 to 24, without having an option to insert an stereo plug-in and send it to an L-R and Mono Cluster. And why make somthing new, where they invent this already at the other consoles?? (seems logical to me)

Just wondering...
1. Will Venue Link work with SC48?
2. Will I still get 32ch recording if I stick with PT8 LE?

And ionStorm, there is no way PT8LE will be able to track over 18 inputs.

I believe you need an HDx Card for Venue link - so no on an S48
You will probably be able find ilok licenses around fro PT 9 pretty cheap.

No-no, Venue link already works on SC48 (from PT8.1HD, PT8.5HDN, PT9), does not need HDx as it works over the ethernet link between machines and for 32 i-o you need to have PT10:

Expanded Pro Tools Functionality
• Supports 32 simultaneous record/playback channels between SC48 or the FWx FireWire Option Card and Pro Tools 10
– Requires a firmware update only for FWx; no new hardware is required
• Expanded channel count automatically appears in the Patchbayand Pro Tools I/O setup when 32 channel-capable FWxCard is detected

Are there any Profile or D-Show owners dissapointed by this update?

I feel that we are getting the shaft on updates compared to sc48 owners. Since we bought our console 3 years ago the only features added that we use are VCA spill, venue link and Tap tempo for plugins.

I wish they would add more features to snapshots like making it more additive than subtractive. Sometimes I just need a snapshot to include a gain change on ch. 31, a eq change on channel 28, and couple of changes to different auxes. The way it is now I would need to recall safe all the things I dont want to change.

Also, I would like to have a channel preset include all plugins and settings used on that channel. For us, we have a speaking channel with settings and plugins. If I find out we have a second speaker it would be nice for it automatically add new plugins to that channel based on what was saved in the channel preset if there is dsp available.

Maybe I'm the only one that feels this way?

Donald :)
