Default Recording problem HELP!

I need to make a highlight reel for a job but cannot because of trouble recording into Pro Tools Free.
Here's the deal. G4 with 128 megs of ram. Every time I try to record something, Pro Tools creates an audio file, (18.7 mb) that takes all of the existing memory. This means I cannot record. Any ideas? [email protected]

I have not yet learned how to record with PTF but I have found it very easy to use Coaster for recording and PTF to process the recording. Here's where to get Coaster for FREE:

Stellardog:

I remember someone here recently had the same problem. I believe the solution was to give PTF a set amount of HD space to work with. I haven't experienced this problem, however.

John:

There is a thread here about USB audio devices and an updated Apple Audio Ext. There was a link to the new ext. Don't know if it's still up though.

Page 80 of the Pro Tools 5.0.1 Reference Guide:
Recording
Record Setup
Allocating Hard Drive Space

The searchable PT Reference Guide is in the Help menu in Pro Tools if you installed the documentation, and stored in the Digidesign/Pro Tools/Release Notes & Documentation folder on your hard drive. (available from the Technical Document Library link below if you didn't download it originally)
