Newbie with a problem connecting Midi Controllers
Hi everyone-
I feel like I've watched every tutorial and forum post about connecting a midi controller to Pro tools 2019, and nothing is working! I have a MPK Mini, and I'm running pro tools on both a mac and windows. I go into the peripherals tab and enable the slave (127) and midi thru is checked off, and on midi controllers tab I have M Audio- Input MPK mini ii (emulated) # channels 8. Some the the tutorials say something about input should be MPK mini Port B, but thats not an option for me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am comfortable with Ableton but I wanted to give this a try, but I'm on the verge of giving up! |

Newbie with a problem connecting Midi Controllers
Hi everybody-
I desperately need some help. I have watched several tutorials, read through forum posts, but I can seem to connect a Midi controller to protools 2019. I have a MPK mini. I have made sure the midi thru is checked, I have gone to the peripherals tab and selected M Audio Keyboard/MPKmini(emulated) for the input, and I have enabled the slave (127). I am an Abletom user but I wanted to learn Pro tools as well. This has been so frustrating and I'm close to giving up. Can anyone help? Thanks |

Re: Newbie with a problem connecting Midi Controllers
On Mac, you need to have the device set up in the MIDI Studio of the Audio MIDI Setup app (in Applications/Utilities). Once it's there, it should show up in Pro Tools in the Setup->MIDI->MIDI Input Devices menu. If it's USB and you have the correct drivers installed, Audio MIDI Setup should see it.

Re: Newbie with a problem connecting Midi Controllers
You only set it up in Peripherals if it is a MIDI Control Surface, i.e. HUI, Mackie Control, etc. Your device is not a Control Surface. Unconfigure it in peripherals. The PT terminology is confusing.

Re: Newbie with a problem connecting Midi Controllers
So it should control the plugin without configuring it in PT? It seems like it should be just plug and play?

Re: Newbie with a problem connecting Midi Controllers
What are you trying to control in PT? If it's just a VI, PT is set up to recognize all midi inputs as default but can be set up in prefs not to.

Re: Newbie with a problem connecting Midi Controllers
I'm trying to use xpand!2. I cant map the knobs or anything. I hit the keys and nothing happens. It was much easier with Ableton and Logic Pro
