Not so fast. I read this statement:

"Pro Tools | First does not include the Score Editor or video playback in the timeline."

Video playback was one of the issues V5V had with Protools 11, so Protools First won't help determine if that will work in Protools 12 or solve problems in Protools 11. It seems Protools First is not exactly the same as Protools 12 so it may not be a good platform to determine if Protools 12 is going to work or be right for V5V.

Perhaps, if V5V knows someone (at his studio or other studio) who has a license of Protools 12 and is willing to let him borrow the iLok and distribution files for testing/demo purposes, it will meet his intended purpose and allow him to determine if Protools 12 will work a determine if it resolves the issues he has in Protools 11.

One issue is I'm not sure if Protools 11 and Protools 12 can coexist on one machine, so it might wipe out some Protools 11 stuff. It is always a good idea to have a good image backup before installing so you can get back to where you were if things go badly. In fact, I'd use a different hard drive for testing.

From what I've read here PT11 and PT12 can co-exist on the same machine and in the same boot partition but you have to re-name PT11 so when PT12 installs it doesn't wipe out PT11. Of course that's not to say some future PT12 release won't allow even that.

People have been doing it on Macs by renaming the PT11 program.

I went to the PT trial Page to find out I cant even demo PT12??? WTF?
