Default Protools LE 6.1.1 freezes on startup

Howdy,

I just got an Mbox and was really excited to use it. I followed the installation instructions exactly and even updated the Mbox firmware as requested. When I try to start Protools, however, the system freezes; I've tried leaving it for a few minutes and still nothing happens.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but I still have the same result. I tried looking through the online support and the forum here, but I found nothing. I appreciate any and all help.

Thanks
Rob

PS I'm running WinXP (SP1) on an AMD 2500+ with 512 MB of RAM if that helps.

my friend just had this problem. check to see of your motherboard is compatible with PT, otherwise, you might have to change your set up.

The mobo doesn't seem to be the problem. I am using an Abit NF7-S which has an NForce2 chipset. There is nothing on the compatibility page that suggests this would cause a problem.

Update: I installed the 6.4 upgrade and it still doesn't work. It no longer freezes, but now I get the blue screen of death on PT startup.

Again, any and all help is appreciated as I'm getting frustrated :/

Thanks
Rob

What was the message on the B.S.o.D?
Have you tried disabling the onboard audio?
What other peripherals do you have installed? (which brand video card, which brand hard drive, any other cards, etc etc)

The BSOD says "Windows has detected a problem and shutdown to prevent damage to your computer." It quickly reboots the system so the rest is had to read.

I tried disabling the onboard audio, and I still get the same result.

Here's the rest of my system
CPU: AMD XP 2500+
Memory: 512 MB RAM
Mobo: Abit NFS-7
Video: ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
Sound:
Creative Live MP3 (I use the motherboard's onboard audio, but I kept this card for its midi connection)
HD:
120 GB SE Western Digital (sata)
100 GB SE Western Digital (ide)
40 GB Maxtor (ide)
CD/DVD:
Plextor CD-R (ide)
Creative DVD (ide)
Linksys Wireless-G card
ATI TV Wonder card

Thanks

Remove the SB Live - its been known to be incompatible with PT on many systems.

You may also need to do the following to properly uninstall PT.
1- also locate and remove dalwdm.sys
2-remove Quicktime
3 from the readme:
Quote:
In order to maintain Avid compatibility (for example, with Avid Xpress DV), the following files are not removed when uninstalling
Pro Tools 6.4: Keyfilter.dll, Winmmfix.dll, dsi.dll, and directio. If you need to revert to an earlier version of Pro
Tools, you will need to manually remove these files before installing.

When you reinstall, also install Apple Quicktime.

Default Re: Protools LE 6.1.1 freezes on startup/6.4 BSOD

First, I want to thank everyone who has offered suggestions; I appreciate it.
--
I tried uninstalling and deleting those files you mentioned and removing QT, but I still have the same BSOD.

I called Digi tech support, and the tech support guy Virgil was very patient and understanding, but never called me back as he said he would. After defragging/checking my drive, I tried taking all the cards out of the computer except video, taking out all the drives except a single IDE HD, disabling everything onboard the mobo (incl. sata), and disabling every startup services/program except the PT ones--same BSOD.

I'm really frustrated here. I was extremely excited to purchase the Mbox and PT, but I'm almost to the point of taking it back. I splurged to buy it, but I can't afford to pay $1000 to throw together a new computer JUST to run PT. Admittedly I new to this so maybe I'll get flamed, but I don't think it's fair that a user should have to buy a new computer just to run the program; I completly understand there are "optimum" configurations, but I have a decent setup that meets all the compatibility requirements listed on the box. If the software is that finicky, the box should be explicit as to what is required.

Sorry to rant, I'm just frustrated. If any kind souls have any more thoughts or suggestions, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks
Rob
