Default Beginner/Newbee question on recording

I noticed that a lot of you guys bouce the mix to master in a new session. So I keep it 24bit and then dither to 16bit on the new track along with whatever plug-ins I use to master with correct? Then what do I do? Bounce it again? Sorry if this seems like a dumb question.

I don't know what everyone else does, but I bounce to the same settings as the session (44.1/24 99% of the time). Nothing on the master fader.

I bring the bounced files into a mastering session, same settings. I apply mastering tools, then bounce to 16 bit.

That's exactly the way I do it as well. I don't even use a master track. I often master in WaveLab as it allows for faster product because you can render the file instead of doing a real-time bounce.

Just out of curiosity, if you don't use a Master Fader on the mix, how do you know if the 2 Buss is clipping or not?

Cheers,
