Re: Replace a 002 with what?
The most popular replacement seems to be the Focusrite units: Saffire Pro 56, Pro 40, and Scarlett 18i20 (USB version of Pro 40).
Similar I/O, much better sound quality, and nice implementation of Low Latency Monitoring via their Mix Control software. And very affordable too. |

Re: Replace a 002 with what?
Personally, I think you are SOL on finding a 1-piece solution. How much control do you need? Artist Mix with a Saffire LS56 or Saffire Pro40 would cover a lot of ground. If you only need 1 fader for doing automation rides, the Presonus Faderport is not a bad choice either(for a tight budget).

and it equally seems to me that by NOT providing a replacement, Avid is making an error.

Re: Replace a 002 with what?
What about a Yamaha 01V96i?
17 moving faders, 12 mic pres, 8 channels of ADAT i/o, spdif, MIDI, 16 channels of recording via USB at 96k. I guess the question is whether it will work with Protools or not. I know that my 01V96v2 worked fine as a controller in Protools 7 even with the 002 (yes with 24 moving faders). Hopefully I'll have Protools 11 within the week and I'll be able to hook up one of our 01V96is to see if it will work. If it does, this is probably going to form the basis of my workstation.

Re: Replace a 002 with what?
well I'd be interested to know if it DOES work with PT11 and forward...
my hesitation with a 003 is that it's likely to be orphaned in the next update, just as the 002 was in this one. |
