Default Windows 7 doesn't pickup Mbox Pro 3rd Gen.

Hey, so I recently installed Protools 10.3.10 and the Mbox Pro 3 drivers (1.1.8, the drivers the installation pack came with), and it was all running fine. However, this was until the audio started cutting out, resulting in having to change the buffer size every 10 minutes or so. All of a sudden, the Mbox started dropping out (disconnected from PC, Blue power light starts to flash), so I have to quit PT10 and reboot my Mbox and launch up PT10 over and over and over again. Then it suddenly got a lot worse, the drop outs being more frequent. I tried updating to the latest drivers (1.1.10), which resulted in the Mbox not being recognized by Windows 7 at all, as though it isnt even plugged in into the FireWire port. What should I do? I've tried a lot of things, such as:

- Updating to the latest drivers (which I stated)

- Uninstalling the New drivers, and reinstalling the old 1.1.8 drivers.

- Changing the Plug and Play and Legacy settings in BIOS in startup.

I plugged the Mbox into my old HP laptop which is running Protools 10 and Mbox drivers 1.1.8 and it works fine. Any suggestions on what I should do?? I've been recording heaps and I need to finish these tracks. Help me!!

If your Mbox Pro 3 and 1.1.8 drivers work fine on your old HP laptop, I would:
(1) Start your computer (with the Mbox Pro 3 disconnected) and uninstall existing Mbox Pro 3 drivers.
(2) Run CCleaner
(3) Reinstall Mbox Pro 3 drivers 1.1.8 (I recommend staying with 1.1.8)
(4) Turn computer off
(5) Re-connect Mbox Pro 3 then turn it on before you turn your computer on - wait until the front lights have settled
(6) Restart computer

This didn't work. What else should I do?

Did you use the same Firewire lead when you successfully plugged your Mbox Pro 3 into your old HP laptop?
If not, try a new Firewire lead, as I’ve read this mentioned here as a successful “fix” for some.

Just a guess:
Perhaps restore the BIOS settings. I only say this because I didn’t need to alter mine. You haven’t said why you altered your settings.

“Hot-wiring” - if you feel you may have damaged your unit by plugging or unplugging your Firewire lead before turning the power off – you may need to have your Mbox 3 Pro repaired.

If that’s the case, I recommend (the only authorized Avid repairer in Australia) –

I hope someone else here can suggest a solution.

I installed the latest mbox drivers onto windows 10 on the same computer as the computer has both windows 7 and 10. The interface works fine on windows 10. So I'm not sure what the problem could be. Ill change back the BIOS settings.

Someone please help this issue, I used a different firewire cable, the smaller one running into my old laptop and it worked fine. I also installed the drivers onto my windows 10 and connected the Mbox pro 3 with the same Firewire cable I use for windows 7 and It worked fine. What could the issue be?????

Hi, so I reset those BIOS settings, I installed the latest drivers onto windows 10 and it updated the firmware of the Mbox. Ithen went onto windows 7 and the mbox drivers 1.1.8 successfully installed, however then as I went onto the mbox control panel, the mbox disconnected. I assumed that as I updated the firmware to the latest, I'd need the latest drivers. I installed the latest drivers and now the Mbox still wont be recognised by windows 7. Is there any way to change the firmware?

“Can you roll back from Mbox Pro Firmware v1.0.4 to v1.0.3?” – my red-alert light starts flashing! – the answer to this (and how you do it) needs someone far more capable than I, as I remember this step could cause big problems, if not done properly.

Hopefully, DUC Members Darryl Ramm and/or albee1952(Dave) can chime in here!

If they don’t answer your questions:

Phone Technical Workshops and ask to speak to Anthony Fitzpatrick.
If Anthony’s not in, ask to speak to someone familiar with the Mbox Pro 3.

It seems that it would be so much easier for you to just stick with Windows 10, but if that’s not possible: please get some expert advice, before proceeding!

Curious as to why you did this?

And just in case you don’t already know this:
Don’t connect or disconnect your Firewire lead while your computer and Mbox Pro 3 are powered on.
