Default Split Region While Track is Playing

Is it possible in Pro Tools to Split a Region while the track is playing? Like while the cursor line is moving I could hit a shortcut on the key and it would just split?

To physically split? I don't see why you would need to, you could however select the in and outs...

Split as in chops

Producer Just Blaze explains it here in this old video but he's using Logic...

Do you mean "separate a clip into 2 clips"? Turn keyboard focus on and hit the B key. I don't know if that will separate on the fly(with the cursor moving over the spot you wish to separate), but it will separate at the cursor when stopped, and you can place the cursor during playback and cut without interrupting playback(and I think there will be some on-the-fly features in an upcoming PT update).

To me, trying to split at a moving cursor would be not precise at all(though there are times when that may be fine).

BTW, check your scrolling options as Continuous Scrolling might get in the way of this(don't know, never tried)

Try it with "Link Timeline and Edit Selection" off.

Personally, I just drop Markers.

I will try out all your suggestions. Thank you.

I could easily just chop to the transient (Tab to Transient) but it’s too on point sometimes if you know what I mean. Sometimes I want that air at the beginning and imperfection. I come from the MPC-3000 where you had to chop samples by the numbers but more importantly using your ears.

Ears are good for a starting point but a lot of time you may cut something off, like the decay of a cymbal for instance. I too drop markers on the fly and go back to double check they are okay.
