Default Avid forced me to give up my student license!?

Hey guys,
I’m in a bit of weird situation. I have a Pro Tools student license with 4 years of free upgrades. I purchased this license in winter 2012, from http://www.studica.com, which gives me an entitlement to upgrades until winter 2016. Here’s the thing; I received my PT12 upgrade last month but with an expiration date that ends on 21-07-2015.
I contacted Avid about this and they told me that if I deactivate my student license they will activate my PT12 license… I did this, not knowing that it would be permanent, and now I locked myself out of any future upgrades.

Now I have 3 questions:

How big of a deal is this?
Do I have to start paying for PT12.1?
What right does Avid have to make me dot this?

Can you be more specific about what month you mean by "winter" 2016?

If you mean January, February or March of 2016 was the end of your 4 years of free upgrades, AVID has actually given you a few free months. The Pro Tools 12 License includes 1 year of free upgrades, so you are now covered until May 2016. Just be aware that from here on out, you will need to pay to renew you Pro Tools license each year, otherwise you would lose your upgrade rights.

That doesn't seem right to me. If it's a yearly subscription, it should have been bought 21-07-2014 which is impossible. OTOH, if your student subscription would have ended on that date, it would make sense, but if you say it started 2012 that too doesn't match.

Something's wrong here, call support asap!

Up to 4 years... When do you graduate?
Maybe they are looking there.

I am finishing up on my Bachelors this semester but will continue on to a Masters degree.

Even though, I do not think this gives them the right to go back on a payment agreement.

John_Toolbox, I purchased the student license in November, which is technically autumn. That makes it valid till November 2016.

JFreak, They gave me a PT12 license as a place holder. Here's a picture from my iLOK License Manager: http://imgur.com/yilMHWg

Hi SolidCake,

I already checked your registration and even your iLok account. And I can see your Pro Tools 10/11/12 (NT) was already activated on your iLok key with a serial number (#####7EF).

Now, about the license that has the expiration date. This license was manually deposited by one of our CS representative last 4/22/2015. in reference to your post on this thread.

Best Regards,

YD

I got contacted by tech support. They called me but due to time-zone differences I was fast asleep.

Got an email that cleared this up.

Even though I had to forfeit my student license with the upgrade plan. It is still in effect till November 2016.

RESOLVED!
