Default MBox 3 as Windows playback device in 96k

I'm in a situation that I need to hear windows software(like itunes, youtube and etc) on mbox 3 in 48k and 96k. I was able to set mbox 3 as default device and hear things in 44k, but I can't use it in 48k and 96k. I changed sampling rate on MBox Control Panel to accordingly, but it didn't help.
I doubt Windows only supports 44k for playback. Any idea??

Open up the volume icon on your taskbar, then open the Volume Mixer. Then click on the speaker icon and go to Advanced under the Speaker Properties window that pops up. There you can set the default sample rate and bit depth for Windows sounds.

I tried that already, but it didn't help.
Actually if i switch to 48k in Mbox Control Panel, the advanced menu gives me to choose 16bit 48k or 24bit 48k. So it seems Mbox Control Panel and Windows communicate each other, but either option won't play anything..

You need to UN-designate the Mbox for Windows sounds, and let the onboard sound device handle that. PT doesn't like to,share hardware.

I know PT doesn't like to share a device with other windows software. But while mixing in 48k or 96k, I often need to hear things through monitor speakers like iTunes, other references, other standalone plugins and such. What's interesting is that I can hear everything(PT and others) in 44.1k, but even when PT is not running, windows won't play anything on mbox in 48k nor 96k. Basically regardless PT, mbox 3 on windows 10 won't play windows software in 48k nor 96k. hope it makes sense..

Use a switch so you can switch between your PC audio and your Mbox. It's a well known fact that trying to get Windows and Pro Tools to share the same audio device is a good lesson in beating your head against the wall.

The OS wave drivers for the Mbox are not really very good or dependable so to be honest I'm not all that suprised its not working well.
Keep the Mbox for Pro Tools duties and get something a little more WDM/MME driver friendly if you must listen to itunes etc.

Otherwise import the audio file into PT to play it back through the Mbox.
