Default PT 8LE BSOD on Windows 7

I recently replaced my XP system with a more powerful computer hardware setup and Windows 7 Home. PT 8.0.5 LE worked fine on the XP system. All PR 8.0.X install attempts (12 so far) on the new system has crashed to blue screen. Any suggestions for resolving this is appreciated. The old XP system had a soundblaster card, but the new system is setup with Realtek HD on the motherboard. That could be the problem, but am looking for others' thought before spending the money on a new sound card. Thanks in advance for all responses.

Are you trying to open PT8.0 before installing the 8.05 update?

Install 8.0 and then straight away install 8.05.

BTW what audio interface are you using? All versions of Pro Tools prior to version 9 must have a proprietary (Avid/Digidesign) interface to run so forget about a soundblaster card & the Realtek HD on the motherboard.

I find it hard to believe PT 8.0.5 LE worked fine on the XP system without a proprietary interface attached to your system.

I apologize, I forgot to include in the original post that the audio interface is the an MBox 2.

Regarding the install, I installed 8.0.3 from my original disks, and did not connect the MBox 2 when instructed during the install, consistent with the directions on the Avid site. After it was installed, I then ran the updater from Avid's site for 8.05. I previously followed these step on the XP, and PT worked fine. I did this same thing on the new replacement computer with Windows 7, and it doesn't work. See the earlier note for the Sandra listing.

Although the blue screen flashes by pretty quickly, it appears the message is "bad_poo_header".

I appreciate any other thoughts or suggestions you might have.

Okay, I completely uninstalled all PT, Digidesign, and Avid files; ran CCleaner; and rebooted my system. I then used the original LE 8.0.3 CDs and ran install, not plugging in the hardware when directed. I then ran the LE 8.0.5 updater, plugging in the MBox 2 when directed. I tried to start and it crashed to blue screen. I then did a complete uninstall of all PR, Digidesign and Avid files; ran CClelaner; and rebooted my system (this install attempt 15 now). Used the original 8.0.3 disk for install without connecting MBox 2; ran 8.0.5 updater, plugging in MBox 2 when directed; downloaded Elevenrack and MBox updated drivers; did each of the optimizations for Windows7 that are described on the Avid site. HELD MY BREATH and try to start PT again. As before, it crashed to a blue screen. I have now exhausted all of the optimizations and install instructions that I have read on the Avid site and the forum with no success. This is very frustrating since 8.0.3 with 8.0.5 update worked fine on my old XP system. This new windows system (see Sandra overview in original post) is supposed to work and be many times more powerful, but I have experienced blue screens and about 30 hours now of unsuccessful install attempts. Can anyone see anything in the hardware configuration that is causing this....or have any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance for anny assistance.

Some things to try:
Compute Shader Processor : Intel(R) HD Graphics Family (12SP 850MHz/1.35GHz, 64MB DDR3 1.6GHz 128-bit, Integrated Graphics) disable this in BIOS
CreativeZEN X-Fi2 (66GB, USB2) : 61GB (H:)
CreativeZEN X-Fi2 SD (USB2) : N/A (G:) remove these for now

Review all the BIOS settings and double check the RAM timings and voltage. If you are using the AUTO settings, it possible that they are wrong(most DDR3 RAM I have seen uses either 7-7-7 or 9-9-9 timing, while yours is showing 10-10-10). Unplug any USB items that are not absolutely needed for Pro Tools(to eliminate as many outside factors for troubleshooting). You can even try disabling the Realtek audio and networking in BIOS to see if it helps at all(easy to change it back later).

BTW, are you running the installer(PT) as administrator(you need to)? And run the program as admin too(right-click on the PT icon and find the spot to check that off, and disable desktop composition on the same window).

Thanks albee. I do have it setup as administrator both places ... I picked that one up in the Avid optimizations.

I will do BIOS changes as soon as I am back at the computer on Friday (traveling for the next couple of days) and see if that helps, as well as the other suggestions. I will post how that goes.
