Default files from Mac to PC get duplicated with ._

Hi,

This has been bugging me for ages, but i just lived with it, but every time i copy files on to a hard drive on my mac then view them on PC all the files get duplicated with ._ in front of them and these extra files are just dead files with no actual data.

anyone know the answer? i'm guessing it might be a fat 332 thing! but not sure!

Chris

Any file on a Mac that starts with a dot, is a hidden file. For instance a file that stores the way the files are organized in 'icon view' is called '.DS_Store'. And there are many more. On a Mac they are hidden because of the dot in front, Windows doesn't identify it is as hidden files.

They are not duplicates but they do not contain any audio data. Instead Mac OS uses them to store some useful but generally non-vital information about their mates. If you stay on PC they serve no purpose whatsoever. I always delete them when they show up on my PC's drives (network transfers from Mac to PC always put them there), but they are harmless, potentially useful to Mac, and it is probably best to leave them alone on a Mac drive.
