Re: Digi please don't get distracted with whiners
I like that the OP doesn't take the tack of telling the people s/he denigrates as "whiners" to shut up, but instead tells Digi not to listen to them.
The way I interpreted this 180 digi pulled on the legacy hardware was a bit more subtle. If they unceremoniously dump the Mix-era hardware now, and then come out with hardware to replace HD-era TDM next year, the HD-era owners are going to be real nervous that they will be the next ones to be dumped. If Avid spends a bit of time and money keeping the Mix systems running for another few months, it might ease the political situation with their most cherished customer during the critical introductory phase. May I ask the OP whether it would similarly be OK for Avid to dump further HD-era peripheral support in order to focus all efforts on the new system? |

But also remember that when HD replaced mix, mix was still supported with software from V6.0 - 6.4.1 before becoming officially unsupported. This was 2 or more years(can't remember the exact dates) of both platforms still being supported. My personal opinion is "obsolescence happens." My mix system has been unsupported for 5 years and still works fine. I'm ready to upgrade, but HD is too stale for my needs at this time. I'd have to imagine there are other people like me who skipped doing the mix->hd upgrade, but are now waiting for the next big thing. I'm just wondering if it's already here in the form of LE+CPTK. |

Re: Digi please don't get distracted with whiners
You guys are rough around here. Lamp has a lot good points as do you all. I don't see the dogpile on those who report bugs. But, when someone shines some light on the reality of a manufacturer who is getting squawked at by those wanting SL support and then chastised by the same folks for making hard decisions like dumping legacy support in order to streamline that request? Honestly, I am not happy with Digi's business model but I know that many cards were dealt to them by Apple. I know they've made their bed but this business of technology manufacturing is hard. 41 bucks a share to 15 over 2 years? PCI slot changes, no future support of PPC in the OS? It has hardly been an easy road.
Lamp has just as much right to complain about us folks still nursing our G4s trying to skip a generation and that guy who will continually gripe about the way MIDI is displayed on the screen. Why should he care if my computer is older than my first grader and still smokes a Mac Pro in the classic "tortoise and hare" fashion? Why should I care about the way a MIDI note can't be resized when I haven't recorded a MIDI note in 20 years of feeding my family through recording and mixing? Why should Captain MIDI care about Doctor SL that wants his 64 bit version of a 24 bit audio application when all he needs is an app that is conducive to composition? Let Lamp have a minute to air his concerns. As far as the 10K or 20K or 30K price tag goes, check the retail on a Sony 3348 when it came out. It's like a scene out of an Austin Powers movie. |

To the Original Poster:
Your post is NOTHING short of whining and wailing. Only it aint got no bugs nor feature suggestions to making PT better. You whine over nothing really, at least those you dare call whiners are whining about SOMETHING useful.

Re: Digi please don't get distracted with whiners
I was very careful to mention that there some valid points. Go ahead and mention them.
I just don't see the objective of spamming over and over. There's even a few posts where people are making up song lyrics, and nicknames for different products. Just giving an outside perspective: after a while it becomes tired. I personally do not know any pro audio / video user forum that is a technical help like this one. Countless times I have gotten positive proactive information to help me solve, configure all things Digi related. To flood it with repetitive posts diminishes the whole concept IMHO. I do understand the passion that the posters have, my question is: How many of you have actually called and talked to tech support at DIGI? What are they saying to you? In closing constructive criticism is a beautiful thing, I'd like to see it becoming more constructive. I have no bad feelings toward anyone. In the words of my 15 yo son "I'm not hatin' on no one."

hmmmm not seeing where I A: denigrated anyone, or B: telling them to 'shut up'
Maybe people are not interested in an opposing viewpoint.
