How about a plugin that emulates the TDM environment.
Call it SoftTDM!

It's dreaming I know... just trying to get excitement back into the picture.
At this stage of the game, 64 bit Protools may not be enough.

Fundamentally upgrading these formats aren't going to make much difference in the final mix in small to midsize productions simply because the recording and production hardware "generally" isn't top of the line in those environments. The poorer sampling and noise from that stuff will swamp any additional instrument fidelity or clarity. But... I still like to think I am working with the cleanest sounds production possible just in case I get a shot at dumping my instrument tracks into high powered system. I'd hate for some kind of crap to show up then. I guess its just a perfection and wishful thinking thing.

A fazing out of support of any PT function with a fore warning at least 1 full version (V10-V11) would be a minimum expectation. However, as a software developer, I realize that you cant continue to support multiple formats forever either because you simply don't have the man power to maintain it all. Lets hope that is the rationale and not just to pump money by forcing the purchase of new plugins..

Cheers!

Sucks there will be no wrapper, i know avid took down one of the developers for that. All i really need are aax plugins from waves, ik multimedia, and native instruments then Im set to upgrade, but I cant now, not with the plugin structure changing like this.

Actually you can. You won't have to surrender your pt 10 license for pt 11 (or it will be replace by a combo package of pt10/11 license). Adding that to being able to co install pt 10 and pt 11 on the same drive, means that if you have to work on a project heavy with RTAS plugs that have not yet made their way in AAX form, you will be able to do so in pt 10, while if you're working on a project that doesn't need those plugs, you will be able to do it in PT 11.

What I'm wondering is if I could run PT10 at the same time as PT11. If so, I could just route PT10 into 11 via MixControl and my worries of RTAS non-functionality are at an end.

No you won't unfortunately. This is the same specific question I asked. All in all though, my way of doing it only requires 2 steps (well per tracks ). Would probably take more to do it your way. Although if you have two license on two different Ilok and a second comp.. now that would be possible.

Does anybody know about file formats? Would PT10 open a PT11 file and vice-versa, only with various messages about some plugs being incompatible?

I don't have the answer on hand, if any other mods do they will answer, if not I've passed along the question. Hopefully You'll get an answer before tomorrow if not maybe tomorrow itself in the video conference.

Well, with a second comp it would be a whole different ballgame. I'd rather just be able to ReWire or something similar PT10 to PT11. All it would take is a MixControl preset, and I could just assign outs from PT10 to a stereo track in PT11. Any other way adds a step of latency.

Either way, being able to still run PT10 in any capacity will be important in the immediate future, at least. Glad that is an option.
