Unhappy Eleven Rack Firmware Update issue - Windows Vista

Hello everyone!

Just got a new Eleven Rack today. It works ok, just recorded a few tracks on Pro Tools. Just made the update for PT version 8.0.3 and worked.
My Eleven Rack has firmware version Rev 0510.

I downloaded the Firmware Updater. It detected my Eleven Rack. But when I start the firmware update process, the updater stops on the window that says:
"Updating Eleven Rack firmware . Do NOT turn off or disconnect your Eleven Rack while this update is in progress! Estimated time remaining: about 3 minutes."
and it stays on this window forever (I waited about an hour), without any update on the progress bar.

During this process, my Eleven Rack behaves like nothing is happening. Looks to me itīs not changing to the firmware update mode. I can even play guitar while waiting.

I use windows vista home premium. I ran the updater as administrator and even tried the XP compatibility mode. But the updater seems to do nothing.

Any ideas?

thanks
Felipe

Sorry, but that would be the best thing you could do.

I have Win desktops, Macs and a Linux server.
Windows is a permanent hassle.

My background: I am an IT professional for 19 years, a PC user for 23 years, a Mac user for 20 years and a Linux user (and administrator) for 14 years.

Lol! I understand what youīre saying. A mac would fix many problems I have during a recording session.. all those error codes are anoying.
But, my point is that this product should be compatible with windows vista. A firmware update should not be a reason to have a mac. Itīs a simple operation, I guess. Besides, I believe many of you were able to make the firmware upgrade on windows vista.

thanks for the reply

A couple of things to keep in mind:

1. Pro Tools cannot be running while you run the Firmware Updater. If you accidentally do this, you will need to reboot both your CPU and the Rack.

2. Unlike a Pro Tools installation, where you are supposed to ignore the "Found new Hardware" dialogs, when installing the Firmware Update, if you see the Hardware Wizard pop up, you should select "Find automatically..." and let the DFU part of the Driver re-bind.

3. You have to have at least Service Pack 1 when running Vista.

4. Get a Mac. :)

I hope this helps! Believe me, I know how frustrating Vista is.

Also, we have a 1.0.2 Firmware Update coming very soon. It will be tested as thoroughly as possible to ensure it works on Vista, XP and Mac.

Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately, I still have the problem.

1. I tried a few times to run the updater right after rebooting my machine.
2. Nothing happens after I start the update process. No pop ups.
3. I got all vista updates.
4. Iīm not buying a mac yet, maybe some day. My credit card is still recovering from my 11R acquisition. But, Iīm contacting a few friends that have a mac book and then Iīll try to run the updater.

thanks again
Felipe

Boy, you've got me. There must be something else on your system doing something weird. Sometimes things like USBAudio.sys can cause havoc with other USB devices like Eleven Rack...

As a last-ditch effort, try right-clicking on the Updater app and choosing "Run as Administrator". Sometimes that helps with things like this...

Thumbs up Re: Eleven Rack Firmware Update issue - Windows Vista

Sure, as I said in the first post, I ran the updater as administrator and even tried the XP compatibility mode, and didnīt work.
In some point the software may throw an exception. I tried running using command prompt, but I saw no error messages in the background. Another possibility would be the program waiting for a response from the Eleven Rack. If this is the case, itīs weird because the application detects the eleven rack in the first step of the updater, and I use the rack on Pro Tools without problems.
thanks again

It's possible that one of these links might have some useful info. Apparently, the USBaudio.sys generic USB driver on Windows can cause havoc with our drivers sometimes...

I did not try to disable the windows usb audio driver because I canīt move system32 files even on safe mode on windows vista. Iīll try to boot in a linux live CD and try that.
Tried the 1.0.2 firmware and got the same problem: couldnīt update the firmware.

thanks
