Default suddenly, unable to locate digidesign hardware PT 8.0.4 003+

PT 8.0.4 with 003+ has worked mostly OK for months, now suddenly get this message 'unable to locate digidesign hardware' every time I launch PT. Link light is solid on back or rack, Host light is flashing about once a second. 1394 driver is legacy, as recommended. Tried different FW cable, many reboots, other suggestions seen here, same results. Help! Here's the Sandra report.

I only see 1 hard drive. That's not the issue, but you do need to record to an approved drive(once you get it working). First thing I suggest is to try the TI Compliant firewire driver. The Legacy driver(recommended as you said) does not work for me on 2 similar but different machines. You also should install the 8.0.5 updater(big timing issue on 8.0.4). Is there another 003 user anywhere near you? One thing worth doing is to try the interface on another machine to verify it works. Reason I say that is because, last year my 003 controller quit working(I had a spare interface at the time) and it turned out that I fried the FW circuit in the unit($327 repair at AllPro Electronics in Nashville). Meanwhile, go to Device Manager>Hardware and see if the 003 is listed, and if it has a yellow exclamation mark indicating a driver problem. If its there(with the mark) then I would uninstall/re-install Pro Tools.

Thx for your reply, so sounds like the firewire port itself is OK (I was prepared to buy a new card) and I just need to impose the TI driver over the one Windows finds, I'll research and try that. BTW I had run W7 with "all devices removed" as a test and forgot to reenable my Fantom external HD, it's normally connected via eSata and works like a charm. It supports FW but I quickly found out that and 003 on the same FW port is a no-go so I stopped that practice quickly. I ran w/o the Fantom for months and finally added it, but this issue I report occurs with or without the Fantom connected. Revised Sandra is below.

eSATA is fine. Firewire drives are not supported on Windows 7 anyway(but eSATA should be the best possible performance choice anyway).

TI Compliant firewire driver did the trick, thanks. The legacy driver had been working (sort of) for months then just stopped, but TI seems to work every time. I did have some issues when I tried to apply the 8.0.5 upgrade against 8.0, but I feel more comfortable with the product and with 8.0.4 so may give that a try again. Also not against upgrading to 9 or 10, but may wait a bit on that. Thx again.
