Default 123 minute max record length

Hi, am I missing something here....?

I need to record a 3 hour show to 24 tracks. I am doing test records. I have tried to do it twice and it stops at 123 minutes both times.

My max record length was set to 210 minutes the first time. I thought something was weird so for second time I increased it to 300 minutes, still stopped at 123 minutes in free record.

At 123 minutes it came up with the box that it ran out of space or disk allocation option ran out...I'm on a fresh 500 gig maxtor SATA drive.

When recording the disk meter is at about 10-15% of max usage MAX

Should I just allow it to not have a maximum record time? I always have used one in the past because of performance issues.

The system does not appear to be stressed or even remotely CLOSE to stressed at any given time.

Session is 96k

Any ideas? Thanks,

Doug

system:
G5 10.4.7
32 bit 13slot digi expansion chassis
HD5
PT 7.2
SATA internal 2nd drive maxtor 500
2.5 gig ram

With the session running @ 96k I think you've reached the file size limit (2048MB).

BTW:

Why is BWAV filesize limited to 2GB in PT. The BWAV specs allow 4GB.

Thanks,

Frank.

Well with a fat 32 drive the maximum file size is 2048meg. I think that is why digi keeps it to that. I wish they would do like AVID and allow longer recording it just breaks up the files. This would be good for those times you need to run a longer record time.

So Digi, I am assuming this is the final reality for the time being?

Sorry. Not true. FAT32 max file size is 4.294.967.295 bytes per single file.

Just for my own education, why is that the max file size? Is it a OS issue, a ProTools issue, or what? I have probably had this explained to me before, but if I take in too much info in one ear, some knowledge falls out the other side.
