Default MP3 and AAC bitrates?

I've been asked to create MP3 and AAC (aka MP4) versions of some final mixes. What bitrate should I use? What's the industry standard? In iTunes, the default AAC bitrate is 128kbps, and the iTunes default MP3 bitrate is 192kbps. Should I stick to that? The goal is to create the most universally playable conversions, and yet still maintain good quality. Thoughts?
