Default co-install of PT 11 and PT12

Has anybody successfully tried a co-install of 11 and 12? if so are there any pitfalls to be aware of?

If you have a current install of 11, you can rename the app itself and run the 12 installer and they'll both be there.

No idea of the consequences though. You'd be in "unsupported" land for sure but I know of people that are doing it successfully.

I have been running a 10.10 drive that has never seen anything BUT 12 and it's pretty darn stable.

Well the both use the same folder structure in /Library and ~/Library so if the PT12 installer overwrites a PT11 file, nobody knows what might happen.

But you're right about renaming the .app

based on users I know, it works. Just not going to come out and say it here.

If fact, I had 10, 11, and 12 all going on the same drive at one point and it all worked.

Except for the ability to roll back to PT11, is there any other reason you would want to do this? From all accounts, PT12 is very much like PT11. There have been conflicting reports about speed improvements and bug fixes, but I haven't heard a single report of incompatibilities between the versions.

Hello Everybody, especially Avid!

I got a weird thing with the co-installed PT 11 & 12 system.
I use PT 11 in "Sessions overwrite current I/O setup when opened" checked mode. So if I open pt12,use,close and after when i open pt 11, the overwrite current i/o setup is unchecked. It's a bit loose the comfort. Im just think it's needed to share with you all.
Bye!

Hi and Welcome to the Community

PT11 and PT12 *shouldn't* be co-installed on the same Hard drive. Thats why Avid dropped the 3 licenses down to PT10/12 to retain the RTAS compatibility so having both PT11 and PT12 on the same drive will cause weirdness and errors.
