Just go for it. If a ten year old TDM system works perfectly, I cannot see why HDN would have trouble with it.

EDIT:
on another note, while the original HD hardware is +10 years old, the PCI-express version of it was introduced after Apple moved to PCI-e with the G5 PowerMac in late 2005.

I have an iMac with a fusion drive running 10.9.1 with Mbox Pro v1.3 and Pro Tools 11.1 and I am having serious stability issues

Do a quick search for Fusion on this board and you will see lots of people with Fusion Drives having problems.
