Default Universal Audio TDM Plug-ins!

Universal Audio Announces New Line of TDM Software Plug-Ins for Digidesign Pro Tools|HD

AES 2002, Los Angeles Convention Center, CA (October 5, 2002) — Universal Audio, a manufacturer of high-quality vintage audio hardware and DSP software plug-ins for digital audio workstations, today announced that they will release TDM versions of their popular Powered Plug-Ins. In addition, Universal Audio will be upgrading many of the plug-ins sold previously under the brand name Kind of Loud to support TDM HD and sell these new versions under the Universal Audio brand name. All the Universal Audio TDM plugs will support Pro Tools|HD and all will also support Apple Macintosh OS X next year.

Universal Audio's highly touted vintage compressor emulations, the 1176LN and LA-2A will be the first plugs-in available for TDM, followed closely by the Pultec EQ. Existing Kind of Loud TDM plug-ins that will be upgraded to support HD will include the Smart Code Pro surround encoders and RealVerb 5.1. In addition, Universal Audio has announced that two new plug-ins, a high-end reverb, DreamVerb and theCambridge EQ, will also be released as TDM /HD versions. Registered owners of existing Kind of Loud TDM products, will be able to upgrade to the new HD-compatible Universal Audio versions for a nominal fee.

"We consider the addition of the Universal Audio plug-ins to be a big boost to the Pro Tools platform," said Ed Gray, Digidesign's Director of Partnering Programs, "The quality of their vintage compressor and EQ emulations is indisputable."

Bill Putnam, co-founder of Universal Audio commented that: "Digidesign is the undisputed leader in the professional digital audio workstation market. The professionals who use Pro Tools|HD will appreciate the sonic quality and character of our plug-ins."

Universal Audio TDM HD plug-ins will begin shipping in Q4 2002.

Great news!!

But, big but, I hope they stretch to Mix support soon after, it can't be too hard to manage that. Unless these plug's (and the GML EQ) are the new carrot to get the Mix user's to upgrade.

Pro Tools HD Support - Bulletin - October 2, 2002

We're working on it. As a sidenote, the Digidesign website shows 22 companies with HD compatible products, and 13 companies with products "shipping soon." Even Digi hasn't gotten all the products they distribute done yet.

We make 20+ plug-ins that run on Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, Mac OS 9, RTAS / AS / HTDM / MAS / TDM|PCI / TDM|MIX / TDM|HD. Unfortunately, it takes quite a bit of time to revise and test over 600 versions of high quality DSP that emulate obscure details of vintage analog hardware. We thank you for your patience.

And:

February 20, 2002

We've been working hard on Pro Tools|HD versions of our products. We publicly demonstrated all the products up and running on HD systems at NAMM.

The products are now in daily use here at Bomb Factory studios. Testing continues while we strive to make sure we deliver the quality products you expect from Bomb Factory.

Unfortunately, it's impossible to predict the future when it comes to software development. Problems can arise at the last minute and cause delays.

When it's done, we'll ship it, and some new stuff too. But the best timeline we can offer right now is "weeks not months."
