Red face Spilled Coke into ProTools Digi 002 console

Yes...I did. After 12 incident free years, I somehow spilled a splash of coke onto my Digi 002 control console and have now lost sound in one channel. Right channel is fine. Left seems to have shorted out. IS there a way to fix this? Just got my first paid sound job right after it happened. Classic.

Thank you so much for any help.

Probably not if it was powered up when the spill happened. The good thing is that 002s are far cheaper than they were.

I'd start with de-ionized water (water that has all the minral content removed, usually sold for use with irons)

That's good advice ^^^. I would remove any PCB that got hit with the coke, and wash it down with the water and an old toothbrush(GENTLY), rinse and dry with a hairdryer. As said though, a used 002 might be a bargain(or you can look at this as a good excuse to upgrade a bit)

Hi,

Add some Jack Daniels and make a night of it

Seriously as Craig and Albee have said distilled water is the way to go. i had a plumber have an accident last year and dirty water ran into my vocal booth over my Song C800G power supply! i caught it just in time and opened it up and thoroughly washed it with distilled water and its been fine. Don't be liberal with it, totally wash everything and use a clean paint brush to wash it all off, as you don't want to leave anything behind and the distilled water will dry and leave no residue.

The Jack Daniels advice is probably the most useful. Toast the last twelve years and celebrate the good times.

Apart from the above helpful contributions, I've always used a straw to remove coke from consoles.
