Firewire cable?
If I removed the ground pin from the firewire cable would pro tools still communicate with the digi002? Im getting a ground loop problem and want to know would this help. I was thinking it wouldnt matter as the digi002 is ground by the mains plug, and the PC by its plug.

Re: Firewire cable?
The problem is not the firewire cable. There are a thousand people running 002 and computer with both grounded and no hum. And I would not expect it to work anyway. Start with some general troubleshooting. Is the 002 plugged into the same outlet(or strip) as the computer?(it should be). Are you running balanced cables to the speakers? Have you tried using an AC ground lifter on each speaker? Unplug everything NOT mentioned above so you can track down without having lots of extra stuff to deal with.
If AC ground lifts on the speakers helps, can they get plugged into the same Plug as everything else? If not, with balanced cables, you can open the plug at either end and disconnect the ground/shield connection(at one end only). Use the AC ground lifter to diagnose, but its not the correct solution. Let us know what you find.

Re: Firewire cable?
The outputs from the digi with ear phones are crystal clear, the digi connected to the mixer is fine too, when the firewire cable is connected (digi on or off) the noise on the mixer is there again.

Re: Firewire cable?
I tried lift the ground and it didnt make any difference anywhere on the chain. I dont think they are balanced cabes, most are RCAs. The digi and PC are plugged into the same strip. I unplugged all the other crap and its still there. The same sound is there from the other PCs to the mixer but its stronger on the channels the digi goes into.

Re: Firewire cable?
Try a different firewire controller (not a different port), yours may be giving up.

Re: Firewire cable?
What are the possibilities of a damaged FW cable? I would try swapping that with a known working one.

Re: Firewire cable?
This may be part of the problem:

Re: Firewire cable?
I would unplug ALL cables from the 002 (except power and firewire) and see if you get the hum. If no hum, then start plugging cables in one by one to find if there's one cable or combination causing the hum.
