Windows XP Service Pack 1 was recently released by microsoft. Has anyone installed this? Any problems with Digi or PTLE?

Thanks

Yeah, I loaded it last night. Took almost an hour to download!

Other than the new court mandated "Set Program Access and Defaults" control I can't tell any difference. It has not caused any problems for me on PTLE or anything else.

Thanks Mike, I'll check it out.

It's not that I don't trust MS, but I've not made a habbit of jumping on Service Packs in the past, but the release notes indicate that they've fixed a lot of bugs.

well, i'm sad to report that i'm actually having all sorts of grief from the service pack install. i've been one of the people to sing the praises of windows xp, but i installed the windows xp sp 1 last night, and the office xp sp 2 this morning, and my pc has been nightmarish today. reminds me of windows 98. anyway, i may uninstall the service pack later on tonight if things don't improve. i just logged on here to see if anyone else was having issues.

couldn't they have made the download any smaller...?

What I don't understand is, what are all these updates I've been getting lately from the internet if the new service pack is supposed to be fixing all the problems. I haven't installed it yet, and I may not. I haven't had any problems that need fixing. Best OS I've ever used and zero freezes in over 4 months. Makes me wonder if there isn't another motive here, like trying to control hacked versions from working.

Seriously, why do we continue to receive updates on a daily basis for? Anyone know?

Allen

I know a lot of the updates contain spyware. It's not illegal in this manner but it's still underhanded and a PITA.

Unless you like people hacking into your computer I suggest installing SP1. Internet explorer seems to be slightly faster.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">You're absolutely right Allen! SP1 contains an update to the product activation system that prevents SP1 or any future updates from being installed on unauthorized copies of WinXP.

In addition to that there's also some court mandated changes related to the ongoing anti-trust suit.

Here's a link detailing what SP1 is all about:
