Default 9.0.2 on my 002

installed the update, then the new driver.
protools wouldn't load. get all the way to the end and then cycle the 002 off and on then said

"could not create a new document because assertion in "f:\code\ws.protools_0.0.x\alturaports\dfw\views\u menu.win32.cpp", line 1142"

then

"pro tools cannot communicate with digi 002. please reconnect the unit and press ok"

then, after unplugging and reconnecting (to no avail) i open playback engine to see what i find and get this error

"DAE error -6001 was encountered"

followed imediately by

"the current playback engine does not support a sample rate of 44.1 kHz"

i uninstalled/reinstalled the driver a couple times but that didn't work
then i switched the FW port the 002 was pluged into from the texas instruments pci card i got years ago because it was certified to work with pt 6 and have used ever since... to the FW port on my mother board (a VIA chipset)

launched protools and it came on normally. i opened a session and things seem to be working correctly. the noise errors i was getting on play/stop seem to be gone (so far) and i haven't tried to see if my "can hear the track input and audio on track simultaneously until punch in" bug while in auto input monitor mode.

cautious optimism.

i hope this is useful info for anybody else who has these errors.

Thanks for this. I'm installing 9.0.2 tonight, hopefully it'll fix the errors as well.

update: launched protools today and got the same errors. so i quit and launched again with out changing anything or restarting and it worked with no errors....

i have a session starting so i can't do anymore testing right now but scratch my comment that it had to do with the texas instruments FW card.

Sounds like the problem is the 002.

I have run 9.0.2 on W7/64 with a 002r and 003r (newest driver) through a Texas Instrument controller with no startup issues.

are you using the legacy drivers for the TI firewire card? that's been suggested in another thread about this problem.

i have a cellist coming for a session tomorrow morning, maybe after that i'll be able to mess around with it some more.

What do you guys mean about the Texas Instruments controller? Is this the firewire interface on your computer meaning you are not using the standard firewire port on your computer?

Also, what do you suggest I do if I don't have a firewire port on my laptop and I want to run protools? Is there a card I need to buy or any way to make it work with USB 3?

Thanks
Steve

If you have an Expresscard34 slot, you could install a card with FW ports.

Otherwise, you are SOL. You need a FW bus to use an 002.

More than that, you need an APPROVED firewire bus. The TI firewire chipset is the best to use with Pro Tools. Posting a Sandra report(assuming you run a PC) would help diagnose hardware issues.

Look into using the Avid mBox (not the Mini) it sounds nice, or go with PT9 and choose an interface that works with your laptop.
