Default Waves V9 troubles with PT 11

So I've had this problem on ALL of my test systems since mid December. The problem being distorted playback, regardless of the size of the session or even blank sessions with nothing but Click 2.

System: Mid 2012 MBP 2.6G i7, 8G ram, booting off USB 3 test drives
OS' : OSX 10.8.5, OSX 10.10, OSX 10.10.2
* All clean fresh OS installs (OSX 10.10.* have been done 4 times!)
PT 11.2.2, 11.3, 11.3.1

I narrowed it down finally last night to Waves! During a test I installed Tel Ray delay, Reverb One, Magic A/B and did permission repair and reboot, tested ok. Installed Waves = distorted playback

Tested on a second install with the same result.

Tested on OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.5 with the same result

On all systems moved Waves to the 'unused folder' restarted Pro TOols and the problem is solved. Put Waves back in the plugin folder and restart and it's still good to go. Reboot the machine and the problem returns.

Again, I am able to do this currently on three systems with ALL the same results. Anyone else experience this? Am I missing anything?

My ML install is optimized and rocking PT 10.3.8, the OSX 10.10.*installs are optimized to the best of my knowledge.

I would open a dialog with Waves if you have 100% repeatability. FWIW, my windows rig runs the latest Waves fine, so it could be an OS issue. Assuming Pro Tools and all plugins are installed to the system drive?

I'll try that again, but the last message I sent may not of gone through from what I'm guessing.

Yup, better to ask Waves tech support, they often can sort out issues in minutes.

Agreed!

Waves tech support is great. They remoted into my computer, fixed the problem, and even cleaned up some Waves "stragglers" from other versions and such.

Just make sure your WUP is current.

Thanks for the tips, I'm out of the studio until late next week so I"ll have to wait. But maybe I'll get the ball rolling this afternoon. My WUPS are all current. I'm guessing it's something with my versions. Especially since it's repeatable across different OSX versions and PT's versions.

There are probably people who know better than me about this, but the use of USB drives has always raised a flag. Maybe it's only superstition at this point--the requirements for PT10 said that USB2 is approved, but the requirements for PT11 apparently are a little more vague. I haven't seen any mentions about 3 yet. Anyway, if you're still looking around for solutions, I'd say it's worth checking out to take USB out of the equation.

Whether or not it's relevant to your situation, I'm running V9 Mercury on the system described in my sig with no issues (besides those that I'm pretty sure are Pro Tools issues!)

I have a sneaking suspicion that it's the USB 3 drives as well. But to be clear, these are not audio storage drives. They are System drives, and booting off of them.

The problem is only present in PT's 11, as the one test drive has co-install and PT 10 runs fine. I'm anxious to get home and try it out. I'm really ready to wipe the system drive and commit to Pt's 11 on OSX 10.10

But so far, I'm rock solid on ML with PT10...no crashes...ever!
