5.1 Surroundscope in VU Mode - Is it Peak or RMS
hey guys n girls ... the surround scope plug that ships with tools - SPECIFICALLY in the VU meter mode - is the measurement displayed in PEAK or RMS
that said ... what mode are people using out there for their mixes PEAK or RMS ... open ended question i know - though say your mixing for a broadcast spec and doing your dialogue premix in preparation for import into your final mix session and finally what is another 5.1 VU meter option cheers

Personally I see no need for VU meters in post as no Euro spec that I know off requires VU metering. Loudness meters and good ears are the modern prerequisite.
Some terratories like the UK are running PPM Peak and R128 Loudness criteria in a quasi both "tandem" mode until the new dawn is complete (even though analogue tx is now all but dead). I came from the depths of the BBC where we were somewhat biastly taught (I am led to believe) that the VU meter is pants and meaningless and the PPM is king - so can't help you there. cheers

It should be an RMS meter with a 300ms response time if it is set to show VU.

thanks for the links guys - VU's (at least plugin versions eg: bomb factory) are switchable to measure PEAK or RMS
so do we assume the mode surroundscope measures in is close to RMS what VU's if any ... are you guys using? or are u using PPM that measure RMS
