Default 5.1 Stem Limiter Recommendation and Thoughts

hi what are you guys using as 5.1 stem limiters

are you using limiters in multi mono mode or dedicate 5.1 mode

currently i'm using maxim or digi's comp/limiter in multi mono mode

i've looked @ the L2007 but it can't be channel linked on multi mono mode ... and there is no dedicated 5.1 version ... which is a bummer as i only hear good things about steve plugs

dsp efficiency as a consideration too?

any thoughts or experience shared is appreciated

cheers

I use the massey in multi-mono mode. That way I can adjust the threshold on each channel.

I use Sonnox Dynamics, but the 5.1 compressor+limiter is TDM only.

why would you want to set individual thresholds per channel? It'd play havoc with stereo imaging.

It is helpful in some cases to limit the center channel differently.

So given we're moving into AAX land where are people now sitting on stem limiters?
Any word on L2007 coming to AAX, anyone had contact on that?

I just dropped Colin McDowell an email, I'd love to see an AAX DSP efficient multichannel version of his ML1 limiter which is part of the ML4000, you know, support up to 7.1 and say a dozen instances per chip.

How many folks are using multi-mono versus a true multichannel limiter? The only true multis I can think of are the Digi dyn3, maxim, Smack, Impact and waves L360 and C360 and with those staying native...

It's a shame Avids channel strip compressor/limiter is so slow and cant be used as a brickwall.

Thoughts?

True - but will it be AAX DSP or multichannel? Screenies and past dev suggest native and stereo.

Are you a multi-mono limiter sort of guy Mike?

It is multichannel and although currently in beta as RTAS, AAX native AND dsp will be rolled out. They write great software and are an ethical company too.

Cheers
