Default Reaper: just amazing.

While waiting for PT 12.8, I will see a few other DAW (because I always hope to leave the slot machine of Avid and its universe of slowness). I have Cubase, I have tried several times Studio One, Logic Pro. Nothing, personally, I really like in these choices.

Then I go to Reaper. Not 5 minutes, but a few hours, to fully understand and search the possibilities. I must say I am amazed. Amazing software, even admirable. I wonder what he does not do. It is a tool that can be parameterized in every way, adaptable to its own work, its own tastes and gestures. The more you use it, the more you appreciate its interface and its functions.

I am, for the moment, admiring. And the price is unbeatable.

The universal presence of Pro Tools is a major asset, and I like, of course, this good old DAW. But the temptation is great in front of what Reaper offers. Pro Tools will not have that in 10 years ...

Here an excellent taste:

I do not present this by provocation, but for a reflection on what a DAW can be compared to its user, for its user. And perhaps to support those who ask Avid to do more.

Avid could possibly keep a pro studio version of PT, stable and conservative, but, in parallel, offer a more creatrive, more open version.

If you want to move projects from the one to the other, the latest version of AATranslator (full version) is the tool for you.

You might also like to take a look at Blackmagic-Design's latest version of DaVinci-Resolve. The new version with Fairlight audio tools is not quite finished yet, but the beta is very close. And at $300, quite a bargain for both audio and video!

HitFilm is another creation tool worth more than just a second look at £310.
