M & E Delivery

A current Direct to DVD 5.1 project requires a DTRS, as the authoring house will do the encoding of the 5.1 mix.

The spec also asks for Lt/Rt (VHS versions) on AES Pair 1 of the Dig Beta master, and M & E on AES Pair 2. I have never delivered an M & E where there was an Lt/Rt involved.

It would seem to me that it should NOT be the matrixed mix with the Dialog muted as this would throw the entire matrixed mix out-of-whack.

So, is it standard that the M & E be Lt/Rt or L0/R0?
And,
Is it common to deliver a 6 channel DTRS M & E?

How did you make the original Lt/Rt? Just make it again minus the dialog,filling the tracks and remixing the foley and add PFX. You are being asked to put an M& E on 3 and 4 of the Digibeta. Just do as they request and don't overthink the process. When they want a 6 track M& E then you will charge them your 6 track M&E rate.
