Default PT 5 & DAE 5 Doesn\'t like many PT 4.3.1 Sessions

Now with PT5.0 / DAE 5, I am unable to fully open some PT4.3.1 sessions (often I get "buss connections can not be made" message). If I launch and use PT 4.3.1, It is still unstable with the most recent DAE and digi init (Ver. 5?). I have one 4.3.1 session that I can crash anytime by using the reverse audiosuite plugin.

For best stability, I now open old PT 4.3 files with PT 4.3.1, it's old DAE and digi init. Now I just use PT 5 with new ver. 5 sessions.

Same here, if I work with my old 4.3 and try to do any audiosuite... CRASH. I'm forced to do this to be able to share sessions with an engineer mixing a project for me that still uses 4.3.1.

Try doing a Track Transfer of your 4.3 sessions into a new PT5 session, then saving it

Are you still have problems with 4.3 sessions? I received that message from PT5 as well, although it didn't seem to have deleted any sends or outputs...?

I just upgraded and obviously need to use my 4.x sessions. Did the track transfer deal work?

thanks

i had a similar problem with older 4.3 sessions. as soon as i would try to open one the machine would crash. as i watched as it was loading i saw it get hung up on the JVP plugin by antares. i removed the plug and everything opened fine. i'm contacting antares to see if there is an update for the plug. this also happened when i used track transfer.

Mick,

I have been unsuccessful in reproducing the behavior you are experiencing. Upon opening 4.3 sessions in PT5, I did get a couple errors but nothing unexpected. I'll explain below. Here are a couple things to check.

First the basics, trash DAE prefs and PT prefs, zap PRAM, etc... Also remember, AS Plugs are file based, in other words, they are creating new audio files. Make sure your drives are tuned with available space, and make sure your SCSI chain is functioning Should be if you are able to record audio.

The next thing that comes to mind is the version of plug-ins. It's possible they did not get updated along with the PT software. Make sure your AS plugs are ver. 1.4. The plug in updaters are available on the PT installation CD ROM from any of the installation packages.

The I/O errors I got were a result of the the SampleCell plug-in missing from the Plug Ins folder. I had some Aux's assigned to the SampleCell from the previous 4.3 system. The result was the I/O's assigned to busses 31 and 32.

Your memory allocations should be fine unless you have a huge number of Plugs loading. Also, remember to only adjust the prefered amount and never the minimum. Make sure your Disk Cache is set to 512 and disable RAM Disk and Virtual Memory.

Jake
