Default PT 11.1.2 and 10.3.8 can't create new document

Hi
I am terribly frustrated, like many others here in the forum! I have had continuous problems trying to work with the PT 11 after upgrading my Mac system so that I could run Mavericks. For awhile PT 11 would work and crash, so I started using 10.3.8 which was more stable. The other day, a problem arose, and I have reinstalled Pro Tools several times, but to no avail. I have also trashed all the prefs several times. In PT 11 I get the dialogue box box enclosed below about TCFE plugin's default file - AAE error, but PT stays open, but cannot create document and I got the following message:
Could not create a new document because Assertion in "/Volumes/Development/124699/ProTools/DFW/MacBuild/../Views/UMenu.MacOS.mm", line 1547.

I got a similar message about not being able to create document if I try to open PT 10.3.8

I have done troubleshooting for countless hours over a few days, and started a new account for just using Pro Tools, but the problem continues. Any advice?

I have paid several hundred dollars for an update, and a perfectly good DIGI002 will not work ( I know it is not supported... but why not?), and the software itself won't either!

My setup:
2013 iMac 2.7 GHz Core i5 with Fusion Drive - external Firewire drive for files
16 GB RAM OSX 10.9.1
Running PT.11.1.2
Digi002 not working, so using either Propellerheads BALANCE as sound card or just the system setup for internal speakers.
I have removed all extraneous plugins that I can see...

I've had that, Try User-Admin permissions (Read & Write) and apply to all enclosed on the drive your saving to.
{Get info for your record drive, you may find your user is not present. Add it then switch it to read & write. Next apply to all enclosed.}

Let us know.

Thanks for the tip DetroitT! I had repaired permissions several times but didn't think of this one. My actual user account name was NOT listed on the main system drive, just system, wheel, and everyone. I added that and did as you said for both drives with applying to all enclosed files. I did it for ALL the drives too, just in case.
BUT - I still get this - YOU DO NOT HAVE APPROPRIATE ACCESS PRIVILEGES (1) -

I am baffled…

thanks,

Are you recording to your system drive?
"(Read & Write) and apply to all enclosed (Pull down Menu on the Record drive your saving to")

PS.
I use a 002 with 11 and a Mac Mini.
Use the 003 11 driver.

BE VERY CAREFUL!

Using "apply to enclosed items" on a boot disk can destroy it!
And disks next to it.
I've been there!

I'll say no more.
Just don't do it. Find another way. There are ways to reset permissions from terminal and applications.

I'll leave the details to the experts.

I am recording ONLY to my Firewire external drive since that is what is recommended by AVID.
About the permissions applied to enclosed items.. I have never heard before that this could wreck a drive..

Here's what happened to me this christmas:

Four drives, seven partitions, three of them bootable.
Backups/diskimages of everything, so I was pretty relaxed as I experimented a bit with permissions on one boot disk that I was going to restore anyway.

I don't remember the details but I changed some permission settings on the volume I had booted from, selected "use on enclosed items" and hit enter. After a couple of minutes it had finished and the error messages started; "the file x cannot be used bla bla" OK, OK ... I just forced a restart.

NONE of the boot partitions worked.

I restored the one system that was backed up with Timemachine, kernel panic!

Three days of horror.

I'll spare you the details, but it basically had to do with ownership/permission settings of vital system files. And I won't pretend I understand it myself.

I finally managed to save all my data, but it was a cliffhanger.

Boot from your restore disk>Disk Utility and repair your boot drive permissions.
(Hold Option during restart/boot choose restore disk)
I was talking for your record drive.

Another thing to try is to create a new folder from your save window onto your record drive and save your session there.

This all assumes your disk is formatted HFS plus Journaled.

I agree with the above statement of Mr. Jenssen.

Still the same problem with access privileges.
I am going to erase the drive and start all over with installations of the system and Pro Tools. A real hassle, but I am getting nowhere this way.
I have used Apple computers since 1984 and Macs since 1987, and can usually solve things, but this is out of my league.
thanks
