MIDI Controller for Pro Tools
I've never used a MIDI Controller for any of the DAW Software i've used, and I Would like to get one, I've always just used my mouse and keyboard.
Does anyone have some recommendations for MIDI Controllers that are good and work with Pro Tools. Something that doesn't cost more then 500$. I've been looking at this one - http://www.musiciansfriend.com/keybo...ard-controller Also, I've been looking at Control Surfaces to handle mixing and such. Does anyone have any experience with the Avid Artist control surfaces such as this one - http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-a...s?src=3WWRWXGP |

Re: MIDI Controller for Pro Tools
Re. the Artist units, there is a whole section of the DUC devoted to them, so check there.
Re. midi controllers, there are some questions that will help guide your choice. Are you a pianist(do you want 88 weighted keys) or is a synth keyboard okay? Do you need buttons and knobs on the controller to work lots of functions in PT? If yes, then the Axiom Pro line might be a better choice. If not, then there are tons of options(all the way down to used synths like the Ensoniq Mirage I use for playing organ parts. cost me $50).

Re: MIDI Controller for Pro Tools
One other thing is the drum pads if you are getting a multifunction.
Some of them are close to unusable even to enter tempo maps.

Re: MIDI Controller for Pro Tools
I would totally check out the Korg KONTROL 2... its like $70 bucks and controls via HUI as well as MIDI controller for VI;s that have MIDI cc assign... only flaw is you can use the faders in HUI mode to automate the actual track faders in PT but they are not automated so they will not move when playing back, etc...
If you are looking into MIDI controllers I would recommend getting one that has HUI control protocol so you can do more than just control a VI, such as playing, stopping, etc (transport controls), etc... |
