I think you can only record 12 at once however.

You can record 48 tracks at once, but can only use 10, or 14 (depends on who you talk to, I get 14) physical inputs. In other words, you can record 48 stereo tracks, but only with 14 different inputs. The physical inputs at 96k all depend on your hardware, and with the 2626 I use I can route in a way to get 14.

96kHz and 18 x 18 I/O maximum with Pro Tools M-Powered.

from the M-Audio website.

If I am not mistaken... the 2626 routes the same as an 002/003, no?

8 analog, 8 adat, 2 S/PDIF. 18 mono inputs or 9 stereo pairs. Same as LE.

Whether or not your system can handle it, is a whole different question, however.

I too use a profire 2626....well two of them to record 16 x 48khz tracks at once.

From all the research I've performed and testing I've done myself I could only record 12 tracks at a time at 96khz through the pre amps.

I won't get into the details as to why, as honestly I don't know why, but this was answered to me on the m-audio site by Paul (m-audio tech). It has something to do with the way PT (m-audio) allocates 96K tracks from the lightpipe or something....google it.

At 96K only every second preamp on my second profire can be used, allowing 4 additional tracks ontop of the 8 from my first profire, giving 12 in total. Don't believe me? Try it yourself. And if you have figured it out there are many guys awaiting how you did. Unfortunately I can record 16 x 96k on logic as it doesn't have the PT limitation.

But I'm getting away from the original post...sorry mate. You're after the voicing total track count not the recording track count. I don't believe PT treats 96k tracks any differently to a 44k track inside the box in terms of available voices.

I think the standard m-audio is 48, with the Music Production Toolkit expanding the number to 64.

If you route the spdif after adat a you can add 2 more. 8 analog , 4 adat , 2 spdif. It routes 18 ins but you lose 4 at 96 k.

With the MPTK2, you get 64 tracks at 48K, and 48 at 96K.
