Bit of the topic, have you guys listened to consumer stereos lately.
They really have gotton worse.
OH MY GOD.....no mids at all! Stupid revebs and image enhancers.

It is really scary....like some audio alternate universe.

Bottom line, with these stereos, mp3s and aacs are good enought sadly.

Let's not loose sight of the fact that genuinely well engineered mixes still sound great on whatever medium they're played on.

Ever hear Floyd sound bad? I've heard that **** on a mono speaker in the celing of a large bathroom and it still sounds great.

It's what seperates the men from the boys. And I consider myself in the pre-fetal stage comparatively.

I tested an mp4 (downloaded from the Apple store) against the cd version of the same song in Pro Tools. I have to say that I was impressed with the mp4. The CD version did sound slightly better.
I then put Waves "PAZ Frequency analyzer" plug in to see what was going on. The CD version had information above 16k, whereas the mp4 had a sharp roll off above 16k. I realize that your ears should be your final guide but seeing (part of) what's going on quite interesting.
