Default Pro Tools has become enjoyable!

I'm amazed that since I threw away my bad attitude about the complexities of PT's, my recording sessions are starting to come together. It seems that every day I discover a new revelation that helps to achieve a more pleasant work flow. Oh, there are still some stumbling blocks and there probably always will be, but I will find a way around them as they occur.
That said, I recorded a 16 track song with rythim guitar, electric bass, three seperate drum parts, (snare tap, hi hat and bass drum and a muted guitar twined with the bass line. (I.E.) tick tack bass). No need to mention the other parts because they are not tempo sesitive. I've tried Quantizing the drum parts and the muted guitar track to a click track and they all fell in to line but the electric bass is still not right. Is there something about Bass notes that prevents quantizing to tempo? Should I re record it and forget the Quantize process. Thanks for anyones help or suggestions.

No. I would take your bass part and cut it all to individual notes (beat detective) and manually move each note to grid. I always have my snare track or bass drum right under neath so you can keep track of the beats. I know I probably didn't explain it right. I hope it helps.

I also will drag the bass track so its right below the bass drum and snare tracks. Use Elastic Audio(monophonic) and align the bass with the drums.

Ah I love elastic audio when it's comes to syncing the bass and kick!
I have never used any other D a W. But it seems like ProTools got this all right

personally, if everything else lined up right, I would just rerecord the bass.

Ahh. that is my thought exactly.. :) Way too complicated the other way. I had a great bass player come in last week and knock out three songs in less than an hour head charted. No music available either. Nothing like the real thing.
Sometimes you don't have that luxury.

Wink Re: Pro Tools has become enjoyable!

Why not just NOT quantize the bass? Let it have a natural or "loose" feel. Just try to play it on beat as possible. Obviously if a note is too far out you can just nudge it into the groove.

I vote for elastic audio on something like a bass guitar. It's not TOO difficult to learn and gives good sounding results. Even when I record someone who is REALLY good with the bass guitar, I tighten up their performances with elastic audio.

for something like an acoustic guitar or drums, I'll use Beat Detective if I need to tighten up timing. Elastic Audio gives me unwanted artifacts in the high end.
