Default Pro Tools LE 8.0.3 + Digi003 freezes with Win7 Pro x64

I've used Pro Tools for years without using Digidesign "supported" hardware. I've always used USB drives at 5400rpm without any issues at all. I've used whatever random (Ricoh) firewire port that was on my computer, without any issues at all. I just recently plunked down $100 for a SIIG FireWire Express card, and another $200 for a 1TB FreeAgent FireWire/7200rpm drive to use with Pro Tools LE 8.0.3 on my fresh install of Win7 Pro x64.

I know that Pro Tools is still in BETA for Win7 x64, so if there's no fix for this that I can try, consider this a report to try to fix it by the time it comes out of BETA.

I have not had a chance to play through an entire session without Pro Tools freezing. In the middle of playback, the meters stop jumping, but playback continues. It's only when I stop playback that everything freezes. EVERYTHING freezes, and I have to hard reboot my computer. All my Playback Engine settings are default right now. I've tried raising the settings, lowering the settings, nothing has had an effect. Number of processors, HW buffer size, disk cache, etc... nothing saves it from freezing.

Ironically, Pro Tools has never RUN BETTER, while it's running. When it works, it's the most responsive, slick and speedy that I've ever seen Pro Tools run, which I guess can be thanks to the faster drive and better firewire card. Oh, and the time it takes to load a session has easily doubled... but closing a session takes no time at all.

My reliability and stability of Pro Tools has gone wayyy downhill, to the point of being un-usable.

I've tried trashing the prefs. I've tried deleting the Databases folder.

Is there anything else I can do? Has anyone had any similar problems?

I have a Lenovo T61 laptop, Core 2 Duo 2.5ghz, 4GB DDR2 RAM, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, SIIG FireWire Express Card, FreeAgent Xtreme external drive, Digi003 Rack, Pro Tools LE 8.0.3, Waves Mercury, Nomad Factory Integral Studio Pack, etc. All plugins are compatible.

Sandra report to follow....

EDIT: I've never had to do a Sandra report before..... does it usually take more than half an hour? Or did THIS freeze too?

to be honest I'm not sure what version Waves is. My work has multiple licenses (through having some sort of affiliation with Waves) and I got one from them. I know it didn't work when I was running PT 7.4+ until I downloaded and installed the Waves 7 updater. Does that help identifying anything?

But PT still runs smooth with the Waves GUI open...

no... really... is a Sandra report supposed to take like 45 minutes? It hasn't shown me anything yet, but the green clock thing in the corner is still rotating....

I looked at the crash dump file, and it concluded that:

Probably caused by : dg003.sys ( dg003+db1d )

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. I have 8.0.4b drivers installed. I think I had it on at all times. Does it really make a difference?

in the dumps i've looked at that involved the 8.0.3 drivers and dg003.sys (probable cause), i would suggest tryin' the legacy F/W driver if you haven't already. 8.0.3 and its' drivers seem to be more stable on the legacy driver. at least that's been my experience while testin'

thanks. when I google searched dg003.sys, the first result was another thread here on the DUC, and read that tip to try the legacy drivers. I'm giving that a shot right now.
