Yes on both counts. The "MIDI Monitor" software recommended shows that there is a signal being recognized, so it seems the issue is in PT.

I did arm the track, but no dice

Just messing with you my friend

Did you get a signal on the Virtual Instrument or midi track or is it only darkness?

Also make sure Midi Thru is enabled under options I think in PT.

So Pro Tools is not recognizing the MIDI interface. I'm really at a loss. All the videos I've watched are set up exactly the same, and I can see that MIDI signals are being input via USB, but crickets on PT.

MIDI Thru is checked

There is a difference in terminology when using external MIDI keyboards. Your USB connector is a MIDI ‘interface’. You connect the keyboard as a MIDI ‘device’ to a MIDI ‘interface’. You have not created that relationship in AMS. Try creating a new device XP-60 in AMS and make the connections in AMS with the up/down arrows on the bottom of the ‘interface’ to the top of the ‘device’. Then the device XP-60 will show up in PT. Old school MIDI.

Thank you. Just to confirm, even though MIDI Monitor can see the keyboard key strikes, Pro Tools needs to have it set up in AMS?

I have always set up old keyboards and rack devices that way in AMS and they worked. Never tried direct via an interface port unless the keyboard had its own USB connector.

I used to use usb (off keyboard) to computer and get PT to detect it inside the software- always worked but i recently in the last year moved to one of these https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...midi-interface

Midi latency is a real thing and this device helps out tremendously

Thanks! So I set up the AMS like this:

I then tested it, and the XP-60 was getting signal and was successful. Went into PT and set up two different Instrument tracks like this:

Armed them and hit keys on the Roland XP-60, and nothing. This is so frustrating. I've never had this much issue getting MIDI set up. Regardless I've never used a USB Interface, but all signals point to it working.

What the heck?
