Default pro tools is expensive so...

OK..the price of pro tools is crazy.so I was wondering, can their stock our standard plugins get the job done... Not involving mastering, but can I get decent results if used correctly.. Or am I better off buying new plugs and add up to my list of bills?

Stock plugs will get you where you need to go. They all work just fine, and now there is a nice collection. You'll actually have a much more stable Pro Tools experience as well, because third party plugins are the root of many bugs and issues (not that it's totally the third party's fault, because it's not entirely, but it is true).

You'll know when you need something new.

If you think the price of Pro Tools is crazy, wait till you see the prices of some individual plugins.

Pro Tools is less than the price of a prosumer vocal microphone.

It is more expensive than the competition, but it is not crazy expensive.

I agree that the stock plugins will go a long way. In fact, IMHO, the only MUST HAVE that you will want to buy is, a decent reverb plugin. Some that are worth a look and won't break the bank:
IK Classik Reverbs
Overloud Breverb
Redline 112db
Maybe the new Lexicon LXP stuff too(but I haven't seen the pricing)

EWQL spaces (299$) is a nice one too, and not that expensive either.

I remember when I started back when things were still made on tapes.. when it was common to spend 250k+ on a 24 studer.. or over half a million on an inline mixing board. Today we fuss about a 600-1000 software Nothing intended to the Op, just saying, we all do the same thing one day or an other, forgetting how much it was in the past. Heck even today, custom consoles are sold for over 500 k...

The Pro Tools included plugins are all you need if you are a hobbyist. and particularly if you are a new hobbyist. IMHO, there is absolutely no need whatsoever to go out and buy any plugins if you are just starting out.

If you can't get a decent result out of using these plugins, spending money on others is not going to yield any different result because one needs to learn how to use them first. Once you have got a reasonable grasp on them, then start looking at third party stuff. Most of them you can try before you buy.
