Cool Used Mac Pro 8 core xeon 5400 or New Mac Mini i7 quadcore?

So I need a new computer. My two options money wise at this point is a used 2008 mac pro 8 core xeon 5400 with 800mhz ddr ( which is really expenisve ) or a new mac mini quad core i7. If i buy the new mac mini i will need to upgrade to protools 10 im currently running 8. With the upgrade cost the mac mini with protools 10 or the used mac pro come out to about the same price.

Which one!!!!!! Thanks for the help!!!

If you get the new mini, you could install Snow Leopard on it and still use 8.
PT 10 still seems really buggy, and I think a new computer is a safer bet in every other way.

I've read it can work, but not consistently. And even when it does work it can be sluggish. So I believe upgrading your pro tools is probably be your best bet.

And while I don't own one, some benchmarks def show the quad-core mini does pack quite the punch.

As a PC fan, the Mac Mini looks like a serious option. Especially if thunderbolt goes mainstream with products like the new UA Apollo interface. The i7 quads with plenty of new(and faster) RAM can make a potent system for a fair entry fee. The deciding factor for the Mac Pro would be if you want/need to have several internal drives or additional PCIe cards.

So new mac mini and upgrade to protools 10 is my best bet?? Is there anything i need to watch out for with protools 10? I have a digi 003 factory + with le8 and the music production tool kit 2. Or i go older mac pro with old slow memory! I think the mac mini is my best bet!

Just got about a month ago the early 2008 8 core that u are talking about $1100 which is Not bad lots of power

There are some sites that rate the power of the new Mac pros and the old Mac Pros versus laptops and stuff I don't believe they have any information on minis though

I'm really happy with the system though so far everything's been really smooth really stable and I don't have to worry about it being us slower system - I don't even notice it - it's very responsive

What was your old computer I had a quad core AMD
